Preparation
- Make the barbecue sauce by combining all sauce ingredients in a bowl. Reserve 3/4 cup for the chicken.
- Combine the spice rub ingredients (except lemon). Pat chicken legs dry and apply the rub.
- Squeeze lemon juice over the seasoned chicken and mix well. Let sit for 30 minutes.
Cooking
- Preheat grill to medium heat (400-425°F).
- Place chicken legs on the grill and cook for 6-8 minutes per side with the lid closed.
- During the last 5-10 minutes of cooking, brush the reserved barbecue sauce onto the chicken legs.
- Cook until the internal temperature reaches 175°F and the sauce is sticky and caramelized.
- Remove from grill and let rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
