Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 large onion finely chopped
  • 2-3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon salt or to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper or to taste
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 8 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 8 ounces uncooked pasta such as rotini, penne, or shells
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese or a blend of your choice
  • Fresh parsley chopped, for garnish

Method

Brown the Beef
  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain off any excess grease.
Sauté the Aromatics
  1. Add the chopped onion to the pot with the ground beef and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper, and cook for another minute until fragrant.
Simmer the Pasta
  1. Pour in the beef broth and tomato sauce, and bring to a simmer. Stir in the uncooked pasta. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the pasta is tender, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
Make it Creamy
  1. Once the pasta is cooked, stir in the heavy cream and shredded cheese until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth and creamy. Remove from the heat.
Garnish and Serve
  1. Ladle the creamy pasta into bowls and garnish with fresh chopped parsley. Serve immediately and enjoy this hearty and delicious one-pot meal.

Notes

Use lean ground beef. Don’t overcook the pasta. Stir occasionally. Experiment with different cheeses. Add veggies like spinach or mushrooms. Add red pepper flakes for heat.
