Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients
  

Sourdough Dough
  • 1 cup active sourdough starter
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 large egg
  • 4-5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
Filling
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans optional
Cream Cheese Frosting
  • 4 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Method
 

Prepare Dough
  1. In a large bowl, combine starter, milk, melted butter, honey, and egg
  2. Mix in 4 cups flour and salt until a shaggy dough forms
  3. Knead for 8-10 minutes, adding more flour as needed
  4. Place in greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 6-8 hours or overnight
Shape Rolls
  1. Roll dough into 16x12 inch rectangle
  2. Spread softened butter over dough
  3. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over butter
  4. Sprinkle with pecans if using
  5. Roll tightly from long side and cut into 12 pieces
  6. Place in greased 9x13 inch pan, cover, and let rise 2-3 hours
Bake and Frost
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F
  2. Bake for 22-25 minutes until golden brown
  3. Beat frosting ingredients until smooth
  4. Frost warm rolls and serve
