  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs
Sauce
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
Garnish
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds
  • 3 green onions thinly sliced
Oil for frying
  • Vegetable oil for deep frying

Method

Prepare Chicken
  1. In a medium bowl, whisk the eggs until smooth.
  2. In a separate shallow dish, combine cornstarch, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Dip each piece of chicken first into the eggs, then coat thoroughly with the cornstarch mixture.
  4. Set coated chicken aside on a plate.
Make Sauce
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes until well combined.
  2. Set sauce aside.
Fry Chicken
  1. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or wok to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Carefully fry the chicken pieces in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes per batch.
  3. Remove the chicken and drain on paper towels.
Combine and Serve
  1. Remove excess oil from the skillet, leaving about 1 tablespoon.
  2. Pour the prepared sauce into the skillet and cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens slightly, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add fried chicken pieces to the skillet and toss to coat evenly with the sauce.
  4. Transfer to a serving dish and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions.
  5. Serve hot with steamed rice or vegetables.
