Ground Turkey Korean Style

  • 1 pound lean ground turkey 93/7 or 99/1
  • 3 cups cooked white rice for serving
For the Korean Sauce
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1-2 teaspoons gochujang (Korean chili paste) adjust to taste
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
For Garnish
  • 3 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

Method
 

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, gochujang, and rice vinegar until well combined. Set aside.

  2. Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the ground turkey and cook, breaking it up with a spoon or spatula, until it's browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary.

  3. Pour the prepared Korean sauce over the cooked turkey in the skillet. Stir well to coat all the turkey evenly with the sauce. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened slightly and coats the turkey beautifully.
  4. Remove from heat. Serve the Ground Turkey Korean Style over hot, fluffy white rice. Garnish generously with sliced green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Enjoy immediately while hot!

Notes

For extra heat, increase the gochujang or add red pepper flakes. You can substitute ground chicken or lean ground beef for the turkey. Add vegetables like bell peppers or snap peas during cooking for extra nutrition. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
