Basic Crockpot Soup Method
- If using meat, brown it in a skillet before adding to the crockpot for deeper flavor (optional but recommended).
- Place harder vegetables (like carrots and potatoes) at the bottom of the crockpot.
- Add meat (if using), onions, garlic, and other vegetables on top.
- Pour in broth, diced tomatoes (if using), and dried herbs. Season with salt and pepper.
- Cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, or until meat is tender and vegetables are cooked through.
- If adding dairy (milk, cream, sour cream), stir it in during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
- Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Garnish with fresh herbs before serving.
Notes
This is a general guide. Specific recipes will have detailed instructions. Always ensure meat is cooked to a safe internal temperature. For thicker soups, you can blend a portion of the soup or add a cornstarch slurry at the end.
