Ingredients

General Crockpot Soup Base (Adjust for specific recipes)
  • 1-2 lbs protein e.g., chicken, beef, lentils
  • 4-6 cups broth chicken, beef, or vegetable
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 2-3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2-3 cups mixed vegetables e.g., carrots, celery, potatoes, bell peppers, squash
  • 1 14.5 ounce can diced tomatoes (optional)
  • 1 tsp dried herbs e.g., Italian seasoning, thyme, oregano
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Method

Basic Crockpot Soup Method
  1. If using meat, brown it in a skillet before adding to the crockpot for deeper flavor (optional but recommended).
  2. Place harder vegetables (like carrots and potatoes) at the bottom of the crockpot.
  3. Add meat (if using), onions, garlic, and other vegetables on top.
  4. Pour in broth, diced tomatoes (if using), and dried herbs. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, or until meat is tender and vegetables are cooked through.
  6. If adding dairy (milk, cream, sour cream), stir it in during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
  7. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Garnish with fresh herbs before serving.

Notes

This is a general guide. Specific recipes will have detailed instructions. Always ensure meat is cooked to a safe internal temperature. For thicker soups, you can blend a portion of the soup or add a cornstarch slurry at the end.
